Our Summer School Professional English courses build upon your knowledge, understanding and confidence of the English language in order to prepare you to meet the challenges of your career in law, healthcare, business, finance, teaching or hospitality.

We are accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English and our tutors have a wealth of real-life and academic teaching experience. Together with our support team, we will help you improve your communication skills in order to further succeed in your chosen career. Our summer school courses are held in small-group workshops. This helps you to build your knowledge, understanding and confidence with the support of your tutors and fellow students. Throughout your time with us, our tutors and student support team will offer you expert help, support and guidance.

  • 10 – 21 July 2017 & 31 July – 11 August 2017: Our International English Summer School is a two week programme of five English courses designed to teach you the professional communication skills you need in your international career in Business, Law, Health, Hospitality and Education. You will have the opportunity to improve your communication skills in English as well as advance your language and vocabulary with a focus on your specific profession. You will receive input from professionals on different topic areas and enhance your employability skills whilst networking with like-minded students from around the world.
  • English for Legal Professionals: This two week course of interactive workshops is designed to improve the specific communication skills required by legal professionals. The focus lies on the development of legal English, listening and speaking skills as well as accuracy and fluency in reading and writing. In addition, you will participate in lectures on legal topics which will complement your learning experience.
  • English for Business and Finance Professionals: This two week course with a mix of workshops and lectures is designed to improve the communication skills of business and finance professionals. Whilst developing your listening and speaking skills, you will receive training on specific skills required for meetings, client presentations and negotiations. You will focus on improving your accuracy and fluency in reading and writing skills and participate in lectures delivered by business professionals to complement your learning experience.
  • English for Healthcare Professionals: This two week course is designed to improve the communication skills required by healthcare professionals. You will participate in workshops to improve the skills you need when speaking to clients, managing difficult conversations and learn specific healthcare language. In addition, you will participate in lectures delivered by healthcare professionals.
  • English for Hospitality Professionals: This two week course is designed to improve the communication skills of professionals within the hospitality industry. You will have the opportunity to learn more about vital speaking skills when managing and speaking to customers. You will participate in workshops to maximise your listening and speaking skills as well as industry-specific vocabulary. You will also have the opportunity to participate in lectures delivered by hospitality professionals.
  • English for Education Professionals: This two week course is designed to improve the communication skills of professionals who teach specialised subject in English. You will receive training on giving lectures and seminars in English, on designing and writing assessments in English, and learning the language vital for meetings - with a focus on both accuracy and fluency in listening and speaking.

Students have to either be professionals in the respective field or current undergraduate students or above for all Summer School programmes.

Students do not have to undertake a specific English test (IELTS) to gain entry onto the programme however be at an intermediate level of English. If there are any concerns please arrange to take a free BPP University English test.
